THE POSITION
Under general supervision, an Account Clerk II performs a variety of difficult to complex clerical work in the preparation and maintenance of financial, accounting, and statistical records.

There is one current, regular vacancy in the Property, Plant and Equipment, Accounts Receivables and Cash (PARC) Section of Accounting. Typical duties of an Account Clerk II may include:
  • Entering data from various sources such as invoices, journal vouchers, job charges, accounts receivable billing reports and receipt verifications by using a personal computer or a 10-key calculator
  • Adding hours from timesheets and calculating taxes and deductions for checks by using a 10-key calculator
  • Calculating amounts on invoices, petroleum transaction sheets, wage authorizations, chemical receiving reports, bank account reconciliations, and bond interest and redemption reports
  • Validating account coding by inputting data into a personal computer
  • Manually matching invoices to approved packing slips and/or receiving documents
  • Reviewing timesheets
  • Sorting and batching paychecks in numerical order
  • Verifying amounts dispersed by matching advance authorizations to expense reports
  • Manually compiling documentation such as field orders, material requisitions, and material returns
  • Performing inventory audits of storage facilities both on- and offsite by manually counting items
  • Reconciling paid account documents such as invoices and receipts
  • Reconciling advance authorization disbursements, payroll labor edits, cash on hand, and book balances
  • Analyzing receiving reports such as unmatched vouchers and check registers
  • Balancing petroleum inventory 
  • Verifying invoice numbers against invoice requisition amounts
  • Contacting East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) personnel by telephone or in writing to obtain additional information
  • Typing envelopes, form letters, cash receipts, and checks 
  • Sending and receiving documents by fax machine, answering telephones, and proofreading accounting documents and correspondence.


REQUIREMENTS
A typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge, skills and abilities is a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and one year of experience in the preparation of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, statistical, billing, and other financial records.

Previous experience with personal computer applications such as Word and Excel is required.
Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job. May occasionally lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

For those Account Clerk II positions requiring driving, candidates must possess or obtain a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The initial monthly salary for Account Clerk II is $4,104 up to $4,988.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
  1. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com beginning at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29 through 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013. Only application materials submitted
  2. online during the filing period will be accepted. Application materials faxed, mailed or delivered to EBMUD will not be accepted.
  3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be evaluated with those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications to be invited to a written test tentatively scheduled for mid or late September 2013. Study materials will be available online only from 8:00 a.m. Monday, August 26 through 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013. Lost or misplaced study materials will not be replaced. The study materials will NOT be available after 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013.
  4. Those passing the written test will be invited to a combination performance test and panel interview tentatively scheduled for mid to late October 2013.
  5. Successful candidates will be ranked on a hiring list for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
