Vocational Instructor

Henkels & McCoy Training Services (H&M) provides training solutions nationwide in partnership with employment and workforce development agencies, businesses and other organizations looking to improve the work readiness, employability and the on the job professional and technical skills of their participants and workforce.

The fulltime Vocational Instructor will spend much of their time developing curriculum, building project based classroom activities, and teaching students new skills to improve their opportunities for employment.

Location: Vocational Instructor to serve Santa Clara County and surrounding areas. 

Instructor
  • Plan and provide high-quality, student-driven, and project-based daily training in which students learn, are challenged, and enjoy the learning process. 
  • Instruct on a variety of courses to approximately 20 students per cohort 
  • Attend trainings to become a certified Instructor/Proctor in multiple Industry sectors 
  • Contribute to curriculum development as part of the Instructional team 
  • Participate in periodic Professional Development workshops, trainings, and staff meetings 
  • Attend and participate in local committees and other activities that enable our organization to stay connected to the community and grow successfully. 

Team Member
  • Participate actively as a member of the H&M team, contribute ideas and make recommendations for improving Instructional opportunities. 
  • Contribute to the entire team by helping other H&M staff members when needed 
  • Have a consistently positive and can-do attitude, which is essential in being a good team player and role model.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required 
  • At least 2 years' experience as an instructor; additional experience as a corporate trainer is a plus 
  • Experience as a trainer working with Adults and At-Risk Older Youth 
  • Drug free, clear background check relevant to working with young adults 
  • Posses a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to facilitate travel through the assigned area 
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook 2007 and/or 2010
  • A passion for working with people to help them reach their potential 
  • Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, lesson planning and project-based learning 
  • Understanding of classroom dynamics, learning styles, and ability to assess students for understanding for improved learning experience and establish what is working and identify areas for improvement 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, engaging personality, a team player, take on new challenges with enthusiasm 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - bilingual is a plus 
  • Experience working with diverse individuals (cultures, frontline staff and stakeholders) in group environments 
  • A commitment to implement progressive teaching methodologies and create a hands-on interactive learning environment 
  • Ability to maintain spreadsheets and complete weekly reports on classroom activity and outcomes 
  • Training or work-related experience in customer service, hospitality, or as business owner is a plus 
  • Experience using Hand and Power Tools is a plus 
  • Value the importance of being safety conscious 
  • Plan, organize, and arrange award ceremonies, other duties as assigned
