Industrial Hygienist [Concord, CA]

Pay Range $30-$35/ Hr

The Industrial Hygienist / Certified Asbestos Consultant duties will include managing assigned project fieldwork, sample collection, and report writing. Asbestos and lead-based paint survey and abatement management experience is preferred. Other responsibilities may include indoor air quality investigations, environmental site assessments, and industrial hygiene monitoring for workplace exposure. Must have a sound understanding of applicable state & federal regulations and codes of practice. Duties will include the following activities related to asbestos: 

Preliminary site assessments / Drawing Review 

AHERA or NESHAP site survey and sampling;
AHERA or NESHAP survey and specifications report completion including CAD drawing oversight as necessary;
Preconstruction/bid meetings;
Monitoring, site coordination, and meetings during construction;
Oversight of clearance air testing and project closeout.
Confers with and provides information to clients, contractors, engineers, scientists and the public regarding conformance to standards, plans, specifications and regulatory codes; explains codes, requirements and procedures.

AA or BS with at least two year’s experience supervising abatement projects and performing building health and safety inspections as a Cal/OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC).
40 Hour HAZWOPER certificate and annual updates a plus
Certification or training/experience in lead paint abatement supervising and monitoring and lead paint inspection and assessment a plus.

Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and EPA Standards, the California Health and Safety Code and the California Building Code.

Obtain medical clearance to wear tight-fitting respirators, work in abatement containment areas and provide emergency response to hazardous material spills and releases.

Experience with computer software applications such as Excel, MS Word, FileMaker Pro, Visio, MS Project, and Power Point.
Work after normal business hours, on weekends and holidays may be required and the work week will be adjusted accordingly.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record and be able to pass DOJ security clearance.
Ability to multi-task, teamwork. Excellent computer skills.
Be comfortable in the office or field settings for extended periods of time.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients and subcontractors.
Be able to effectively apply time management and project management principles.
Willing to travel within Bay Area, usually a few days to a few weeks.
Operate field vehicles, e.g. vans and small trucks.
Ability to lift 40 pounds, stand and/or walk 8 + hours each day and enter high hazard environments and other areas
