Sales Manager

We are nonprofit organization dedicated to helping scientists the world over cope with the ever-increasing volume of scientific research and data. Our mission is to provide the scientific community with a useful and intelligent synthesis of the primary research literature for a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines. Annual Reviews publications are among the most highly cited in the scientific literature, and are available in print and online materials to individuals, institutions and consortia throughout the world.

We are currently seeking a professional and upbeat Sales Manager with strong consultative sales skills to maintain and develop institutional sales by selling site licenses to the academic, corporate, government, and medical center markets in assigned international territories and in other areas as needed. This position is full-time and can be based from your home office.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Promoting and selling the Annual Reviews online products and collections to current and potential international customers and international sales agents via all media.
  • Managing and maintaining the strong existing customer base using a consultative sales approach and responding quickly to customer and agent needs.
  • Preparing and proposing pricing quotes customized to account needs.
  • Working with the Sales Director to identify market trends and prospect for new academic, corporate, government, and medical center customers.
  • Evaluating agent performance and identifying training needs.
  • Traveling to industry trade shows, agents’ sales meetings, and accounts to promote the AR Site License program. Setting up and taking down trade show booths as needed.
Qualified candidates must have the following experience:
  • 5+ years of sales experience in the publishing and/or academic markets
  • Successful international business development experience preferably in Asia, India and the Middle East
  • Proven experience working effectively with sales agents/resellers
  • Experience successfully managing and maintaining multiple accounts
  • A strong successful track record of closing sales and meeting and exceeding sales objectives
  • Experience traveling internationally and assimilating effectively into different cultures
  • Prior experience using a CRM system to document sales activities
Other job requirements include:
  • Ability to travel internationally in developing countries approximately up to 30% of time
  • Ability to adapt well to time zone changes and working long or alternative hours as needed
  • Demonstrated understanding and patience for longer sales cycles
  • A positive and professional demeanor and a consultative sales approach
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term business relationships
  • Ability to establish strong camaraderie, work well with team members and forge relationships with other publishers
  • Ability to think critically, effectively make connections, and analyze international markets and conditions
  • Ability to approach problems in new and innovative ways and conceptualize problems or challenges differently
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated
  • Strong understanding of online content
  • Proven track record of working well independently
  • Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload effectively
  • Ability to perceive, respect, and adapt to cultural signals and differences
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to lift and/or exert force of up to 40 pounds
  • BA/BS preferred
